Uses for Duct Tape

Duct Tape Nalgene Duct tape should always be on your packing list before you head out on a camping trip. When you are in the backcountry, there are few options if something breaks. Some of the things I have needed duct tape for are tent poles, blisters and even my pants! Most of these fixes will only be temporary until you get back home. Then you can either get a replacement, or leave it be because you did such a great job.

Blisters are a common occurrence while hiking and can be very painful if not treated. On short day hikes, not everone brings a first aid kit with them or even band aids. The one thing you do bring is your water bottle and this is a perfect place to keep some duct tape. Tear a piece off that is bigger than your blister and firmly place it over the wound. This is a quick fix that will alleviate some pain and allow you to get home.

I enjoy carrying around my Nalgene bottle and I have duct tape wrapped around the outside. As you can see in the picture, I include a piece of webbing for a handle. Many people use carabiners to attach their water bottle to their backpack. They place the carabiner through the plastic that holds the lid to the bottle. If the plastic breaks, you have a chance of losing your lid and causing your bottle to be useless for the rest of the trip. By making a handle, you avoid this from happening, and also make it more functional. The best part is you do not need to carry the whole roll of tape which can add extra weight. What uses have you found for duct Tape while camping?
